Every summer, approximately 40% of law students at Catholic University, Columbus School of Law work in public service internships for non-profit organizations, academic institutions and government agencies. Students for Public Interest Law (SPIL) strives to help offset the cost of working in these meaningful, yet unpaid, positions by rewarding the bright and dedicated students who choose to pursue jobs in the public service sector.
Each year, the Students for Public Interest Law host an auction to raise money for summer stipends. Additionally, SPIL contributes 10% of the proceeds to the Loan Assistance Repayment Program, which is a program that helps alumni who are pursuing careers in the public service sector to repay their law school loans.
The SPIL Auction helps to further interest and involvement in the many public interest legal jobs throughout our community and the country. It is also a fun event that gives students the opportunity to take a Friday night off from studying, go out, socialize with friends, faculty and alumni, and bid on some great items. Through the hard work of SPIL members, faculty, alumni, and community members, the 2010 SPIL Auction raised over $75,000. This year, we expect to raise the bar and exceed the $100,000 mark. We hope you will join us!
