Students for Public Interest Law

Students for Public Interest Law (SPIL), founded in 1989, is an Associate Member of the National Association for Public Interest Law (NAPIL). While the law school and its students have continually demonstrated commitment to providing legal services in the public interest, SPIL was organized to further this commitment. SPIL derives its unique character from the diversity of the students involved, all of whom share in the law school's tradition of public service.

SPIL puts on numerous events and community service/pro bono activities in order to provide information and experience in public interest law. This includes community service and pro bono opportunities, guest speakers, career panels, and general information on various type of public interest opportunities. SPIL also organizes the Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) study guide and used book sales.

Our biggest event is the Annual SPIL Auction which raises money to provide summer stipends to students working in public interest. Last year, we met our goal of $100,000, allowing SPIL to provide 26 students with $3,500 stipends for their summer work.
